چکیده

Two network-virtualization architectures, namely, network segmentation and network paging, were investigated. They are analogical to two memory-virtualization architectures: segmentation and paging. Network paging, which is relatively new and is based on a type of network-address translation (NAT), is focused on. This architecture requires smaller packet size and has several more advantages over the conventional architecture (i.e., network segmentation). Intranetand extranet-type communication methods based on this architecture are described. An address translators is placed at each edge router in the WAN and used to evaluate client-server communication under wide-area virtual-machine (VM) live migration as a case of extranet-type communication.

Stateless Network Functions: Breaking the Tight Coupling of State and Processing

In this paper we present Stateless Network Functions, a new architecture for network functions virtualization, where we decouple the existing design of network functions into a stateless processing component along with a data store layer. In breaking the tight coupling, we enable a more elastic and resilient network function infrastructure. Our StatelessNF processing instances are architected a...

Research and Implementation on Virtual Network Mapping Mechanism based on SDN

Network virtualization technology allows multiple logical networks or network applications to run simultaneously on the underlying physical network. The virtual network mapping is the key method to realize network virtualization. Virtual tenant network (VTN) is a new technique for construction of multi-tenant network in software definition networking (SDN) network. VTN mapping mechanism is a co...

A "network-paging" based method for wide-area live-migration of VMs

In cloud-computing environments, migration of virtual machines (VMs) between data centers can solve many problems such as load balancing and power saving. One of the difficulties in wide-area migration, however, is the “address-warping” problem, in which the address of the VM warps from the source server to the destination server. This confuses or complicates the status of the WAN, and the LANs...

Towards a secured network virtualization

Network virtualization promises to fulfill the demand for an agile Internet that is friendly to technological innovation. In the past, tremendous effort s have been dedicated to studying the fundamental problem in network virtualization, namely Virtual Network Embedding (VNE). However, until recently, very limited work has addressed the security issues and implications of VNE or network virtual...

Using TLB Speculation to Overcome Page Splintering in Virtual Machines

As systems provide increasing memory capacities to support memory-intensive workloads, Translation Lookaside Buffers (TLBs) are becoming a critical performance bottleneck. TLB performance is exacerbated with virtualization, which is typically implemented with two-dimensional nested page tables. While virtualization vendors recommend using large pages to mitigate TLB overheads, in practice, page...
